I don’t think there is anyone such person you can give credit to for creating this diet, however, the Paleo diet first become popular in the 1970’s when a man named Walter L. Voegtlin first began to promote the idea. Since then many books and publications have been created to help people adapt to this diet plan.

I do not have any numbers to give you that reveal how many people follow this diet but do understand that since the early 1990’s numerous medical doctors and nutritionists have been promoting this diet as part of a healthy lifestyle. Now according to Google, the approximate number of people globally who searched for the phrase “Paleo diet” in October 2010 was at 40,500 that number has increased to 165,000 in March 2011. That is an increase of over 400% in just 5 months!
